This year I was given a rather less inspired character for our end of year program… Scooby Doo.  I loved the cartoons but I had no idea how I was going to dress up as this rather distinct dog.  I printed out a mask to wear but couldn’t bear the shame of such a shabby effort.  In the final moments I grabbed a few pieces of coloured cardboard and proceeded to assemble it around a little pink hat I found in one of the storerooms.  This is the result…

I doubt this will have the same viral response as my Stormtrooper costume but I thought I’d post it up as my search for Scooby-Doo costumes yielded rather scarce results.  I realise this is not a full costume but it was more than sufficient to create an impact.  It’s not great under close inspection but the primary children seemed excited enough as they screamed “Scooby!” as I walked past them. Happy dress-ups to you!

I’ve come to realise that I write in this blog when I am feeling melancholic.  I approach this site like a listening booth or confessional from THX1138.  Speaking as a member of Gen X (which will be remembered as the cowlick of social history), the music of Pulp was probably the last band I truly devoured as an anthem for my generation or more accurately, the sub-culture I best identified with.  Jarvis Cocker, probably the coolest man in the Brit-Pop scene, sang about the drama of the everyday and the awkward side of desire while making cheeky crassness and artform.  But it was something about the sound of their music that pulled you into the past while defying nostalgia and empty sentimentality.  It’s rare today to listen to a pop band that drips with such rich irony and to do it with such style.  As we gets older, we are defined by more things around ourselves than the music we listen to or the clothes we wear.  We now have responsibilities, a greater archive of memories and a driver’s license.  However, listening to this music tonight, it makes me miss a time when a song could be everything to you, or that a sound could elevate you above the hum drum of the moment.

Ok, after trawling through the internet and finding no answers on how to save images from my Blackberry Bold 9700 browser I finally found out how to fix this.  Normally to save an image, you simply hover your curser over an image, hit the menu button (button with seven dots) and select the “Save Image” option just under the “Full Image” option.  Well I never had that option and I know that many online have not either.  So here’s what worked for me…

In your browser, click the menu button and go to Options.  Select General Properties and in the Default Browser section select Internet Browser if it is on something else (mine was set on “Vodafone Live!”).  Close the browser and relaunch it.  Now when you hover the curser over an image on your browser and click the menu button, you should have the option ‘Save Image’!

For some reason, now when you navigate to another page, the “Save Image” option disappears.  The only way to overcome this is to make that page your launch page and relaunch the browser.  Options > Browser Configurations > Use Current.  Or, you can choose the start page as “Last page loaded”, close and restart.  Frustrating but better than anything else I’ve found.  If you know of a better way, please let me know.

I’ve spent many hours trying to work this out and in true Blackberry logic it was cryptic and difficult.   There may be a better solution, and one that makes sense to folks more technical than me but this is the only thing that worked.  This is why so many people now use an IPhone.  I hope this has helped you as there is no solution like this I could find on the internet.
